Our team Lead Kelly Ryan was the account executive for this project, a build out and full gut renovation of 230 Park Ave South (14 story commercial building) for the Discovery, Inc. new global headquarters, and the kitchens and studios for the “Food Network”. This was a project that included the coordination of 15 fully functioning kitchens and 1 employee cafeteria.
The build out of the kitchen work consisted of the coordination and integration of all nuances involving commercial kitchen construction such as: Make Up Air, Exhaust, Ansul Systems, Gas, and utility companies. Tight coordination with all consultants, architect, engineers and kitchen consultant, and millworkers, was required to ensure equipment layout was fully coordinated with all involved trades, including coordination with FDNY and local authorities signed off. Examples of the equipment required in these kitchens included: Walk-in refrigerators, walk-in freezers, fry stations, grill stations, bakeries, and others. Some of these kitchens were used as a “kitchen studio” to film shows for the Food Network.
Lastly, the full-size cafeteria for the employees of approximately 8,000 SF was part of this project which integrates with the rest of the project floors. This was part of the corporate program for a great employee experience, offering breakfast and lunch for employees at a discounted price with a fantastic lounge feel environment. The project consisted of the coordination of interesting architectural finishes, graphics, furnishing, MEP systems and equipment, as well as ADA clearances. In addition to a close coordination with DOB, FDNY and utility company.
